Planning a trip to A Coruna

Up to 10 flights a day fly from Madrid to A Coruña’s Aeropuerto de Alvedro (tel. 90-240-47-04), 10km (6 1/4 miles) from the city center. It’s served by Iberia (tel. 800-772-4642), Air Europa (tel. 911-401-501), Binter (tel.   928-327-700), EasyJet (tel.  936-410-000), Volotea, and Vueling Airlines (tel. 807-20-01-00).

Trains arrive at Estación San Cristóbal, Praza San Cristóbal (tel. 90-232-03-20). Depending on the train, the one-way ride from Madrid lasts 3 1/2‒4 1/2 hours and costs 15€‒45€. From Santiago de Compostela, 21 trains per day make the half-hour trip at a cost of 5.05€‒8€.

To reach the old city, take the #5 bus (1.30€ or a taxi (about 7€). Monbus (tel. 90-229-29-00) runs buses between A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela every hour. The trip takes 30‒90 minutes and costs 6.75€.

By car, A Coruña is reached from Madrid by the N-VI. You can also follow the coastal highway, N-634, which runs east from San Sebastián all the way across the northern rim of Spain.

The tourist office at Praza María Pita, 6 (tel. 661-687-878 or 98-184-42-00, x10501), is open Monday to Friday 9am‒6:30pm, Saturday 10am‒5pm, and Sunday 10am‒3pm; November to January, it closes 1 hour earlier on weekdays.
