Hummingbird
Owners Cathal (the chef) and Meshelle Armstrong are the married power couple behind Hummingbird, which Washington Post restaurant critic Tom Sietsema has called “Old Town’s most appealing place to eat.” (Other restaurants in the Armstrong family are the Filipino/Thai/Korean restaurant Kaliwa, at the Wharf in Washington, D.C.) Hummingbird debuted in summer 2017 inside the new Hotel Indigo, scoring an early success for the city’s waterfront redevelopment strategy. Come here for the wonderful water views both inside through the glass doors, and outside on the patio, where you can dine even in winter, warmed by stoked firepits and blankets. The theme is nautical, with a navy and white decor. The food is as delicious as the setting, including lemon lobster linguini, crab and corn fritters, excellent versions of chopped salad, lobster rolls, grilled fish and, naturally, Southern-style hummingbird cake.
