Amalfi by the Book

Amalfi is best known to English readers from John Webster's masterpiece, The Duchess of Malfi (1623). This bloody tale of love, lust, and murder captures the scandalous side of Renaissance court life; what's more, it may actually be true. The original source is the Novelle of the Dominican priest Matteo Bandello (1485-1561), who served several courts and no doubt knew whereof he spoke.
