Mollie's was actually the Mayor of Auckland's digs back when it was built in 1870, and it still has a good dose of majesty to it, leavened with a healthy sense of humor. What does that mean? Marble floors, chandeliers, beds fit for a princess, juxtaposed with very contemporary works or art and wallpapers, and cunning throw pillows with funny sayings on them. So yes, quirky, but in a wonderfully elegant and even romantic way. The hosts here are gems—helpful, knowledgable and able to arrange excursions and babysitting at the drop of a hat. And the location, near the shops of Posonby is delightful: quiet, but not too remote
