Planning a trip to Avila

Up to 18 trains leave daily from Madrid’s Chamartín and Principe Pío stations, about a 1.5‒2-hour trip each way. Tickets cost 10€‒31€. The Ávila station is at Avenida José Antonio (tel. 90-232-03-20), 1.6km (1 mile) east of the old city, about a 20-minute walk to the tourist information center. The city bus to the center cost 1.30€. Taxis line up in front of the train station and at the more central Plaza Santa Teresa. For taxi information, call  92-035-35-45.


Buses leave Madrid daily from Estación Sur de Autobuses at Calle Méndez Alvaro. One-way tickets are 9€–12€. In Ávila, the bus terminal (tel. 90-202-00-52) is at the corner of avenidas Madrid and Portugal, northeast of the town center.


To drive here from Madrid, head northwest on Highway N-VI (A-6) toward A Coruña, eventually forking southwest to Ávila. Driving time is around 1.25 hours.
