Getting There

Badgastein is a major stop on the main rail line connecting Munich and Salzburg with Klagenfurt and Venice. Express trains from Salzburg depart every hour throughout the day (trip time: 1 1/2 hr). Certain trains, especially night trains from Salzburg, might require a transfer in the railway junction of Schwarzach-St. Veit, 68km (42 miles) south of Salzburg. Dozens of trains traveling from Innsbruck also stop in Schwarzach-St. Veit. Call tel. 05/1717 (www.oebb.at) in Salzburg for schedules.

One daily bus makes a 2-hour run in both directions between Salzburg's Mirabellplatz and the railway station in Badgastein. Buses from Badgastein make frequent runs into the surrounding villages.

If you're driving, take the A10 south of Salzburg and cut west at the junction with Route 311. At the junction with Route 167, head south.
