What do Betsy Ross, Henry Ford, Popeye, and John Wayne have in common? They all championed the cause of different uses of the cannabis sativa plant, one of the oldest agricultural crops on earth. This is not at all the “stoner” museum that you might be expecting, but rather a thoughtful presentation of the various ways in which hemp and marijuana have been used historically in industry, in medicine, and in pop culture. Additionally, the Dutch instigator of the museum (he also opened one in Amsterdam) placed it in one of the most beautiful Modernista flats in the Gothic Quarter, and building’s history is highlighted along with a focus on the objects on view. The experience is complemented by whimsical moments like a selfie machine that will place you and your friends or family in a virtual marijuana field or dressed as scientists in a pot greenhouse, and the shop is full of irresistible souvenirs.
