The cafes of the Viena baking company are ubiquitous in Catalunya—there are six alone in Barcelona. But this is the one where everyone stops for a draft beer and one of the best ham sandwiches you will ever eat, the “flauta d’ibéric jabugo.” It's a crisp, slender baguette sliced in half and filled with paper-thin slices of the air-dried ham from Jabugo in Andalucía. The ham comes from the Iberian black-footed pig that spends its life gorging on acorns in the cork oak forests near the Portuguese border and is considered Spain's finest mountain ham. This version of a ham sandwich is almost twice as expensive as others (6.75€), and worth every cent.
