Calling itself a “wine restaurant,” Cata 1.81 serves only tapas, but they’re hardly run-of-the-mill small plates. Here you’ll find a “bikini” (the ubiquitous grilled ham and cheese sandwich) with black truffle, grilled foie gras with orange marmalade and “caviar” of chocolate grains, and a ground pork burger with curry ketchup and a fried egg. You can order a la carte, or opt for a tasting menu that is cheaper than ordering the dishes separately. The wine list is deep and broad, covering most of Spain and some of France, Italy, and California.
