Most visitors simply walk around Boca Chica because of its small size. Locals or visitors who don't want to walk often avail themselves of a motoconcho or motorcycle taxi. The fares are to be negotiated but they are usually cheap. These motoconchos abound all over town, and are driven by young men. Given the obvious danger, we don't recommend them. Should you not want to take our advice, you'll find many near Parque Central in the heart of town or else cruising along bustling Avenida Duarte. If you don't have a car of your own, and if the idea of sharing one of the above-mentioned motoconchos is more than you're prepared to deal with, you can hire a taxi for a 3-to-5 hour excursion from your Santo Domingo Hotel into Boca Chica for a day trip. A reputable taxi company prepared to craft tours of between 4 and 5 hours, enough for lunch in Boca Chica and a fast overview of the town, is Si Tratuboza, Av. Duarte 30 (tel. 809/523-4797). For example, a driver will take up to three people from where you're staying in Santo Domingo out to Boca Chica and then back to your hotel for between RD$3,500 and RD$4,200. The same terms would apply to passengers originating in Boca Chica who'd like a day trip to Santo Domingo -- but in that event, be aware that you might need as much as 6 hours for a reasonable coverage of the highlights of the Colonial Zone, a tour that would probably cost as much as RD$6,300 for around 6 hours in the capital.
