Camagüey's Synagogue

Camagüey has one of the more active, if still tiny, Jewish communities in Cuba, and many Jewish visitors from overseas visit the city's small synagogue, Tifereht Israel, Calle Andrés Sánchez 365, between Capdevila and J. de Agüero, La Vigía (tel. 32/28-4639). Inaugurated in 1998, the synagogue serves just a handful of families, and the community is in the process of restoring the small Jewish cemetery in the city, which had suffered from neglect. It's best to call beforehand as visits are preferred after 5pm, although the synagogue is open all day.
