In neighboring Rockport, this deli/market/bakery/sandwich shop has long been the place that locals and summer people duck into for locally roasted coffee and to-die-for pastries in the morning, a bottle of wine and a baguette for an afternoon picnic, some prosciutto and fancy crackers for those unexpected guests. After moving into a renovated schoolhouse in 2019, it also became one of the best places on the midcoast for lunch. The menu changes from day today, but the reuben, when it’s on the chalkboard, is hefty and luscious. The bahn mi, served every Monday, is the best in the state—meats vary, but the spice is always piquant and the baguette always the perfect combo of crusty and pillowy. Don’t sleep on the pizza slices, always creative, big enough for two, and Maine’s best lunch bargain at under $4  .
