On a hook of sand reaching into the gentle Bras d’Or Lake, campers crowd together in RVs, tents and cabins to enjoy one of the few beaches on the lake, swim in the warm waters, and take in the views of the low, green mountainsides that enclose and protect these waters. In spite of—and possibly because of—the tight quarters, regulars return year after year, to let the kids run loose, meet old friends, boat around the lake, and gather about campfires at night.
