Whether you stay here, eat here, or just browse here, this one-stop-shop is a charmer with a genuinely caring staff. On the dining front, it serves delicious home-made breakfasts, lunches, and Fair Trade coffee to all comers. These range from orange and almond granola topped with house-made rhubarb preserves in the a.m to snow crab sandwiches with organic greens on oatmeal brown bread at lunch. Periwinkle promises 90 percent of the produce you’re eating is grown in Cape Breton and 60 percent of all ingredients are locally sourced, some from the café’s own backyard. On site is also a lovely gallery with unique artwork, books, and jewelry, all made by local artisans. Salty Roses’ also has 4 bright and spacious guestrooms (C195 doubles) with a lot of homespun appeal and large bay windows overlooking the coastline and Ingonish Island. Note that the double rooms share a bathroom; there is also one apartment style unit that comes with a kitchenette and newly renovated ensuite bathroom. The goat farm next door (groovygoat.ca) makes the soaps provided in the bathrooms here. For hotel guests use: a firepit and free Wifi.
