Things To Do in Capua
Capua Attractions
Surrounded by walls and castles, Capua maintains the feeling of an ancient town. Its western gate is by the bridge, and the 15th-century eastern gate -- Porta Napoli -- is near the ruins of the 11th-century Norman Castello delle Pietre, on Via Andreozzi, which still has one of its four original crenelated towers. The facades of many buildings are decorated with Roman artifacts, such as the bas-relief at Via Pier delle Vigne 26 (off Corso Appio); at no. 34 on the same street is a picturesque Renaissance house with an arched courtyard designed by Guido da Maiano, and a few interesting churches. Particularly noteworthy are the six marble busts gracing 16th-century Palazzo del Municipio on Piazza dei Giudici, off Corso Appio; they depict Jupiter, Neptune, Mercury, Juno, Ceres, and Mars and were taken from the Anfiteatro Campano of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
