An important cluster of Victorian Gothic-style buildings, holding, you guessed it, the Arts Centre is still in the process of being restored to its former glory after considerable earthquake damage. But most of the restoration on its main wing has been completed, and now this postcard-worthy destination captures the essence of Christchurch as it once-was—walking into the historic courtyard will make you feel like you’ve hopped on the train to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts. More than just a photo stop, this is also where you’ll find The Observatory Hotel, wine bar Cellar Door, art galleries, boutiques (including Frances Nation Home, which specializes in NZ-made homewares and gifts) and the vintage-feel Lumière Cinemas.
