Safety -- Córdoba is safer than Seville, but beware of muggers. Unemployment is high, and thousands of tourists are arriving with bulging wallets, cellphones, and cameras. The police presence is strongest around the Mezquita and in the Judería district. A particularly dangerous strip is the section west of Calle de San Fernando, which should be avoided at night. Of course, it's wise to lock valuables in the safe in your room or in your main hotel safe and venture forth with only what you'll need for the day to cut down your loss in case you become the victim of a mugging.
