Black-and-white portraits of movie stars adorn the walls of this friendly little bistro in the center of Athlone. The menu doesn’t present too many surprises, but it’s all done very well—honey-glazed roast pork, Irish lamb, burgers, or maybe cod fillet with traditional champ mash or skinny fries. For dessert, try the Toblerone cheesecake and warm chocolate sauce—it’s made with a brand of Swiss chocolate bar, popular here since the ‘70s. The set menu is a pretty good deal at €22 for 2 courses, €29 for 3 (served all night Mon–Thurs, or until 6:30pm Fri–Sat).
