This great little bistro is in Tullamore, about 3.4km (2 miles) northeast of Charleville Castle. Start with a plate of tender king scallops with prawn toast, or a spiced pear and Cashel blue cheese salad, before choosing from honey-and-thyme-glazed duck breast or slow-roast lamb served with garlic potatoes and rosemary jus. A full vegetarian menu is always available (try the sweet roast vegetable and honey log with goat’s cheese). The fixed-price Sunday lunch menu (€24 for two courses, €28 for three) is a great, and very filling, choice—don’t expect to get much done afterward.
