Preston House

Classic Irish food, elegantly prepared and presented is the mainstay of this popular fine dining restaurant in the center of Abbeyleix. This is very much a special occasion kind of restaurant locally, with all the seasonal ingredients and technical skill that you’d expect. A starter of goats cheese soufflé is presented in thoroughly modern style with delicate squares of saffron gel; for main course you could have some wild seabass with pappardelle and cep voulete, or perhaps some woodland pigeon, served in its own jus with puy lentils. It’s not all formality and fuss, however; come to the cafe (in the same building) before 5pm for the simple but very good lunch menu on offer for around €10 per main course (less if you opt for a sandwich). Preston House is also a very good B&B, with prices starting at €120 for a double.
