The Old Fort
Well this is certainly a unique place for a restaurant: a converted artillery fortification, constructed to guard against a potential French invasion in the early 19th century. The building has been interestingly restored, with slightly wry touches like lighting sconces in the dining room shaped like old-fashioned rifles (the effect is subtler than it sounds). The menu keeps things simple, with plenty of traditional flavors; a starter of crab claws or calamari, perhaps, followed by roast duck with honey and clove sauce, or maybe a simple but delicious steak with pepper cream sauce. A simpler, more international set menu goes right along with the à la carte options.
