Room rates here are among the most affordable in Florida. Some lodgings have several rate periods during the year, but generally they are somewhat higher from the beginning of the races in February to Labor Day. Rates skyrocket during major events at the speedway, during bikers’ gatherings, and during Spring Break (see the “Calendar of Events”). Even if you find a room, there’s often a minimum-stay requirement.

Thousands of rental condominiums line the beach. You can either turn to Airbnb.com or VRBO.com to book, or, Peck Realty (tel. 800/447-3255 or 386/257-5000) which is a large, well-respected local agency.

In addition to the 6.5% state sales tax, Volusia County levies a 6% tax on hotel bills.
