This is one of the top nature lodges in Costa Rica—the views are superb, the setting sublime, and the wildlife viewing and adventure opportunities are as good as it gets. Rooms are beautiful, with gleaming hardwood decks and interiors, and most are two-story, with a bedroom and bathroom upstairs and down connected by a spiral staircase. The best are the large Sunset Ranchos, which sit on a prominent high point with a panoramic view of the sea, with massive master bedrooms featuring nothing but windows on three sides. Even the slightly more humble standard rooms are large and plush, with private balconies and mesmerizing views. The food and service are top-notch, with guests seated together at long tables, swapping tales over four-course dinners. A small pool sits on the edge of a jungle-clad hillside, and Cocalito Beach is a short hike down a winding trail through the rainforest. Packages include two tours, usually a boat ride into Corcovado National Park and a snorkeling trip to El Caño Island. The lodge takes conservation seriously, and is actively involved in protecting the region.
