Getting There
By Coach (Bus) -- InterCity (tel. 09/623-1503) provides regular transport to the glaciers from north and south. Both Magic Travellers (tel. 09/358-5600) and Kiwi Experience(tel. 09/366-9830) include the glaciers on their itineraries as well.
By Car -- The World Heritage Highway (St. Hwy. 6) follows the coast from Whataroa to Franz Josef Glacier to Fox Glacier to Haast and over the Haast Pass. The Department of Conservation's World Heritage Highway Guide suggests places to stop along the way. Roads in this area should always be treated with respect, especially in wet or icy conditions.
