Jeongdongjin Beach

A tiny fishing village is located on this beach, named during the Joseon Dynasty because it is by the ocean directly east of the Hanyang's Gwanghwamun. At this beach, known for its great sunrises, you can get a nice view by hiking up Goseongsan. Across from the train station, there is a small alley to the right which leads to a hiking trail up the mountain. The wooden steps lead you up to the top and the view. You can catch a short train ride here from the Gangneung Station.

The train station here (which is incidentally in the Guinness Book of World Records for the somewhat strange honor of being the train station closest to the ocean anywhere in the world) is located right on the beach. The train ride (tel. [phone]) costs W10,000 to W15,000 for adults, W9,000 to W13,500 for children.
