A tour that should be a part of every visitor's itinerary is a boat ride along the canals. Open and covered boats, which feature a narrative commentary in several languages, depart from boat docks on Graslei, Korenlei, and Groentenmarkt. A 50-minute cruise on the canals with either Rederij De Gentenaer (www.rederijdegentenaer.be; tel. 09/269-0869) or Gent Watertoerist (www.gent-watertoerist.be; tel. 09/269-0869) is included in the CityCard Ghent package and is well worth it to see the historic buildings lining the medieval waterways. Tour boats sail from Graslei and Korenlei, and opening hours and costs are the same for both cruise companies: April to mid-October daily 10am to 6:30pm, mid-October through March daily 11am to 4pm. Cruises cost 7€ for adults, 4€ for children 3 to 11.

From Easter to October horse-drawn carriages that seat up to five people depart from Sint-Baafsplein from 10am to 6pm.
