Getting There -- Fifteen kilometers (9 miles) east of Selfoss, Route 30 branches off from Route 1 and follows the northwest side of the Þjórsá. At Árnes (your last chance for a hot dog), turn onto Route 32 to continue along the river. Eventually Route 32 bridges the Þjórsá and dead-ends at Route 26. To the left are Hrauneyjar and the Sprengisandur route to the north. A right turn leads back to Route 1 on the opposite side of the river, passing near the base of Hekla.

Visitor Information -- The best resource is the regional tourist office at Hveragerði. Þjórsárdalur's website is www.sveidir.is, but English translations are still in the works.
