Inuvik has several good hotels, all located on the town's one main street, Mackenzie Road. However, beware: They all book up in the last week of June during the annual Inuvik Petroleum Show. To check conference dates, go to www.inuvik.ca.

Campers have two territorial campgrounds to choose from. Jak Park is 5km (3 miles) south of Inuvik on Airport Road leading into town (tel. 867/777-7353). It has 36 sites, toilets, showers, firewood, and an impressive view of the Mackenzie Delta from an observation tower -- as well as excellent cranberry-picking in September. Happy Valley Park (tel. 867/777-7353) is right in town and located on a bluff overlooking the Mackenzie Delta. The site is walking distance to shopping and attractions. It offers 27 sites with a laundromat, hot showers, and RV hook-ups from May to early September. Territorial Park camping fees: Tent pads are C$15 per day, non-powered RV sites are $23 per day, and powered RV sites are C$28 per day. Reservations are recommended, which you can make at www.nwtparks.ca, or order a free Road and Campground guide by calling tel. 800/661-0788.
