At the airport, Cloud Nine (tel. 867/777-3541) is a small cafeteria-like restaurant with soups, sandwiches, and huge burgers with crinkle fries (C$8-$18). And a trip to Inuvik is not complete without a visit and a spin on the dance floor at the Mad Trapper Pub (124 Mackenzie Rd.; tel. 867/777-5853), usually the last stop of the evening, where you can enjoy live music and a game of pool.

Inuvik has three supermarkets. Northmart (160 Mackenzie Rd.; tel. 867/777-2582), Arctic Foods (182 Mackenzie Rd.; tel. 867/777-2880) and Stantons (49 Navy Rd.; tel. 867/777-4381). The "Fruit Man" (Bill Rutherford) sets up a fruit-and-vegetable stand in a truck across from Northmart throughout the year. It is a treat when he's in town, but his work takes him on the road for several weeks at a time.

Inuvik's one Liquor Store is at 27 Distributor St. (tel. 867/777-4974). The store is well-stocked with a modest supply of beer, wine, and spirits.
