Aura del Mar
It's hard not to gush about Aura del Mar (formerly known as Brisas del Mar). It's the kind of friendly hideaway most visitors only dream about finding. The rooms are simply lovely, their walls sponge painted with bright, uniquely Mexican colors and covered with well-chosen pieces of folk art. Headboards are hand–carved, many rooms contain private outdoor spa tubs (all rooms have balconies with sea views), and some even boast usable kitchens. The public areas are just as enchanting and well equipped for fun, from the ping pong and pool tables hidden in one nook, to the highly usable little gym in another. There’s even a business center for guests who refuse to give in to fun. The pool is much bigger than you’d expect at a hotel this size and there’s easy access, down the stairs, to the beach and the hotel’s terrific seaside restaurant. Service is top-notch and friendly, and I include in that assessment Carmela, the African parrot who greets arriving guests with a cheery "Hello!" A real find.
