La Villa
Usually one has to kiss an enchanted frog to get to stay in a place this magical. A converted manor home, it has the aspect of a small if rustically chic castle, complete with tower rooms, canopy-draped beds, and views that typically only eagles enjoy. Each room is on its own level (so no sounds from neighbors) and is filled with unique pieces of Latin American and African sculpture. Floors are inlaid with stones or Brazilian wood in exquisite patterns. Most have a palapa-shaded terrace for sunset watching; in some, the room opens up onto the terrace in such a way that, when the shutters are open, it feels like the bedroom is open-sided. In between the guestrooms are open-air living rooms, tranquil pocket gardens, and all sorts of other nooks where you can put up your feet and enjoy a good book. In the downstairs garden there’s a small pool, and the beach is a two-minute walk down a lively restaurant– and shop–laden road. A final incentive to stay here: A delicious breakfast is included in the nightly rate. The caveats (for some): This B&B is not accessible to those who have trouble with stairs, and children under 18 are not welcome.
