Getting There

An IC train departs Budapest's Nyugati Station every hour. The fare is 1,880 Ft-2,440 Ft one-way, depending on the train. You are required to pay an additional seat reservation fee of about 770 Ft. Travel time is 1 1/4 hours. If you're driving from Budapest, take the M5 motorway south -- you'll have to pay a highway toll each way.

The best source of information is Tourinform, at Kossuth tér 1 (tel./fax 76/481-065; www.kecskemet.hu). Their website in English is one of the most comprehensive available. In summer the office is open May 1 through June 15, Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm and from June 16 to August 31, it is open Monday through Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 2pm. From October 1 to April 30, hours are Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm.

Piroska Tours at Szabadság tér 2 (tel. 76/483-493) will be useful if you're planning a side trip to Bugac or any equine-based activities. Summer hours May to September 30, Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm, Saturday 9am to noon and from October to April Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm.
