Kate Kearney’s Cottage

Unofficially considered the gateway to the Gap of Dunloe, this cheerful pub is hugely popular. It’s a little touristy (a dead giveaway is the in-house souvenir shop), but the atmosphere is upbeat and traditional, and the stick-to-your-ribs pub food is pretty tasty. The menu offers steaks, burgers, and bistro-style classics, best washed down with a restorative pint. Semi-regular “Irish Nights” offer a package of dinner and a show of traditional music; call or check the website for upcoming dates. The pub is named after a feisty local woman who carved out a reputation as a maker of illegal potcheen (moonshine) that she called Mountain Dew.
