Parque Eco-Archeological de Los Naranjos
This small Lenca site on the northern edge of the lake is a far better eco-park than an archeological one. Just a few mounds and piles of stones can be found at the site, which dates back to approximately 700 B.C. More exciting are the 6km (3.7 miles) of stone paths and dirt trails that weave through much of the complex, including a hanging bridge. This is one of the best spots for bird-watching around the lake, and there's even a small tower for birders near the mounds. A small museum and visitor center with information on finds at the site and general background of the Lencas graces the entrance and parking area. To get here from La Guama or Peña Blanca, you can catch a minibus to El Jaral on Hwy. 54, which should drop you off on the main drag, if not right at the park. A second entrance has been added in Los Naranjos, though tickets must be bought at D&D Brewery before entering.
