Quinta do Portal

The cellars here were built by the great Porto architect Álvaro Siza Vieira in 2008 and form one of the most striking buildings in the region: amber-colored blocks coated in places by cork and slate for natural insulation. Inside it's a vast, temperature-controlled bunker lined with silently aging port barrels. You can linger in the estate's older buildings, converted into a sophisticated boutique hotel (double rooms 100€–120€, including breakfast) and a renowned restaurant serving dishes, liked baked salt-cod with rosemary and olive oil, paired with the estate wines.
