"We have the sun, we have the Mediterranean Sea," claims the island's director of tourism. "What more could you want?" That about says it.

The best beach on this 11km (6 3/4-mile) island is Isola dei Conigli or Rabbit Island, lying 7km (4 1/3 miles) south of town. It's right off the shore, and you can swim over to it, except when the tide is out and then you can walk over. In addition to good sandy beaches, there is a small nature reserve here where the endangered Caretta turtle lays her eggs between July and August. A small bus in town runs to the departure point for Rabbit Island every hour during the day. There are no facilities on Rabbit Island, so take what provisions you need.

In summer you can go down to the wharf in Lampedusa and negotiate a boat tour around the island with one of the local fishermen. Full-day jaunt, with lunch included, are also possible. There is little in the interior of interest.
