We usually expect hotels named after Spanish monarchs to be steeped in history, but this mid-20th-century property in Leon’s commercial center features modern decor. The soaring seven-story lobby is ringed with interior balconies and filled with sculpture. Mid-size guest rooms are not as dramatic. The rooms are decorated in the bright contemporary Spanish style with lots of color pops, simple Scandinavian furniture, and bathrooms awash in marble and nickel-stainless fixtures. Soundproofing is excellent. The top-floor bar is a dramatic place to get a drink at night, with sweeping city views.
