Osteria dell’Oca

The restaurant “of the goose” is crammed nightly with locals enjoying vibrant cooking at excellent prices. This is a rustic family-run Italian osteria at its very best: noisy, happy, and joyous. Some of the best dishes on the menu are the sharing plates of peccati di gola (“delectable delights”), local salamis and pancetta with a wedge of creamy polenta, lard, and beetroot salsa. If you are looking for true local specialties, try the pumpkin pasta with butter and sage; agnoli (like a tortellini) pasta in broth with a splash of wine; or “tagliatelle alla baffo,” pasta with beans and sausage, based on a family recipe. Only three wines are served, in thick carafes. Opt for the white from local vineyards rather than the lambrusco, which is quite sweet. This generous outpouring of food ends with complimentary coffees and a thick hazelnut digestivo della casa liqueur. Book ahead for a weekend table.
