Getting There -- All buses headed from Reykjavík to Þórsmörk, Vík, and Höfn stop at Hella and Hvolsvöllur en route, with plenty of daily options; contact Þingvallaleið (tel. 511-2600; www.bustravel.is) for schedules.
Visitor Information -- In Hella, the tourist information center (tel. 487-5165; www.south.is) is along the Ring Road at the corner of Þrúðvangur, just across the bridge as you enter from the west. Hours are Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm. In Hvolsvöllur, tourist information (tel. 487-8043) is inside the Saga Center, on Route 261 just off the Ring Road. The center is open May 15 to September 15 daily from 9am to 6pm. The free and widely available brochure/map Power and Purity has very detailed information for the region.
