Hotels in Mazurian Lake District
In Gizycko, the moderately priced Hotel Cesarski (Pl. Grunwaldzki 8; tel. 87/428-15-14; 250 z double) is good for a night if you need a central location to get your bearings. It's newly renovated and a short walk from the tourist information center. If you want to stay in a castle, there are two to choose from. The 14th-century Zamek Reszel (Podzamcze 3, Reszel; tel. 89/755-01-09; www.zamek-reszel.com; 280 z double) was for 500 years the seat of bishops. It now has a Polish restaurant where the dishes are reasonably priced, and the rooms combine medieval ambience with contemporary creature comforts. A much bigger cousin is Zamek Ryn (Plac Wolnosci 2, Ryn; tel. 87/429-70-00; www.zamekryn.pl; 450 z double). It doesn't feel as authentic as Zamek Reszel, but it has more amenities. Both places are about 20km (12 miles) from Gizycko.
