Hotel Napoleon

Housed in a 1902 building that’s on the National Register of Historic Places, partially because it was home to one of Memphis’ first newspapers (you can see stacks of papers bound in the lobby), this boutique hotel does a good job of incorporating modern elements into its old bones. These include a small bar and Luna restaurant. With corbelled balconettes and elaborate iron railings, the outside of the hotel may be more lovely than the inside, though the latter is outfitted in Tennessee marble. All rooms feature large, original, ornate windows and fluffy beds, as well as oversized bathrooms. Complimentary espresso is always available in the lobby, though sometimes that’s all the libation you’ll get down there as the bar is closed Sunday nights, and sometimes, unexpectedly, on other nights as well. While it’s not as luxurious a stay as the ARRIVE or Peabody, its price reflects that fact, and its location makes it a top choice.
