One of the few luxury hotels downtown, Memphis's Westin is at the foot of Beale Street, with views of the Gibson Guitar plant and the FedExForum, where the Memphis Grizzlies basketball team plays. The rooms themselves are classic Westin—bright, white, and sun-drenched—and in my opinion there's nothing better than the Westin's signature "Heavenly Bed," with its plush, pillowtop mattresses and 250-thread-count sheets. Speaking of sleeping soundly, if you want a peaceful slumber, request a room that's not on the Beale Street side, which can be quite noisy any night of the week. In a town still finding its footing on the hospitality side, the Westin's service is a bit lacking (though it's not much better anywhere else, aside from the Peabody). But there's nothing at all wrong about the very convenient location. One fun perk here: guests can call down to the front desk to have a classic Gibson guitar delivered to their rooms, along with a virtual amp and headphones.
