This city, so rich in barbecue, wings, and fried chicken, isn't rife with white-linen dining, which is what makes Andrew Michael all the more special. While the restaurant may not be that fancy by bigger cities' standards, the fresh produce, meats, and cheeses from local farms and food purveyors keep the locals coming back. Be sure to try one of the handmade potato gnocchi, ravioli, and other specialty pastas. The rest of the menu is a mix of seafood (like calamari and butterfish) and game (such as rabbit dressed up with celery root, apples, pancetta, Brussels sprouts, and shiitakes). Their crudo, fish, and fresh pasta are always perfectly executed (I still don’t know how they make a cold beurre blanc crudo sauce), as are their cocktails, which are often named after Memphis institutions including now-defunct Karaoke bar the Windjammer (rum, tequila, blackstrap bitters) and the Buccaneer (Corsair gin, Cocchi Americano, Benedictine, and bitters), which also references a local bar that shut down due to arson a few years ago.There's a great patio out back for those warmer nights.
