The cupcake trend will never be "over," and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Case in point: Muddy's Bakeshop, one of the first cupcake bakeries in town, is so popular that in 2014 it expanded to a second location, Muddy's Midtown (585 S. Cooper St.), in Cooper-Young. At either location, the cupcakes to get aren’t a simple chocolate or vanilla (though it has those for the purists among us). Instead, opt for one of the more unusual of the roughly 20 varieties it makes each week. These might include the Capote, chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and sprinkles; the Oodelolly, vanilla cake with coconut filling and old-fashioned boiled icing and shaved coconut on top; the Grasshopper, chocolate cake with green peppermint icing; and the King, banana cake with peanut butter icing. Not a cupcake lover? There's something for you, too, by way of pies, cookies, pudding, muffins, pumpkin and banana breads, and plain-Jane cakes (the chocolatey Prozac is a bestseller). There's also daily vegan special, plus a short menu of lunch items. The interior is decked out in bright, whimsical colors, as if Alice in Wonderland decorated it herself.
