Hotel Fonda Vela
This longstanding hotel is one of the closest you’ll find to the Monteverde reserve, just a 15-minute or so walk away. Rooms, in several separate buildings, have views over the forests all the way to the Gulf of Nicoya. Locally milled wood planking is used for walls, floors, ceilings, and wainscoting. The junior suites are especially spacious. A short walk from the restaurant and rooms is a heated pool, a couple of Jacuzzis, pool and Ping-Pong tables, board games, and a casual bar, all housed under a high, curving atrium roof.
