Restaurants in Nancy

A range of restaurants line rue des Maréchaux, nicknamed Gourmet Street. At no. 25 is Le Potager des Maréchaux (tel. 07-82-54-04-16), the “vegetable patch,” serving up salads, quiches or paté Lorraine. For great market-based cuisine walk a little further to the tiny Le V’Four, 10 rue St-Michel (www.levfour.fr; tel. 03-83-32-49-48), where you can get a fixed-price lunch for 24€ to 27€.

You might end your day of sightseeing by calling at the century-old brasserie L’Excelsior, 50 rue Henri Poincare (www.brasserie-excelsior-nancy.fr/en; tel. 03-83-35-24-57), which is an amazing period piece from 1911 with stained-glass windows and polished brass chandeliers. Just a block from the rail station, it serves Lorraine specialties with fresh oysters, a delight in season.
