Isaac and Stephanie Meek started Five Daughters Bakery in their Franklin, Tennessee, home in 2015 to escape corporate life and spend time with their family (including, of course, their five daughters). It took off, and now their 100-layer doughnuts routinely top local “best of” lists with good reason: Their confections are the best parts of cakey doughnuts, delicate puff pastry, and fluffy croissants with just enough sweetness from the glaze. At $4.50 apiece they cost more than a typical doughnut, but because of the craftsmanship, ingredients, and aforementioned 100 layers, they are worth every penny. The chocolate sea salt version is a revelation. They also have locations in 12South and the Factory in Franklin.
