Nashvillians know that Charlotte Pike is the place to find the city’s longest-standing trifecta of Vietnamese food, which comprises Kien Giang, Miss Saigon, and VN Pho, which all exist within one quarter of a mile (and two even share a parking lot). They are all worthy options, but I will always fight for Kien Giang when it comes to awarding top honors. Their clear, fragrant broth is perfectly sweet and salty, they have surprisingly good fried rice, the crunchiest egg rolls in town, and their bún bò huế—spicy beef noodle soup—is diabolical yet delicious. The decor is sparse, but the hot soup and cold beer here are so good you’ll find yourself asking, who needs ambience?
