Right now, Red Perch is one of the best-kept secrets in town, but it won’t stay that way for long. This small restaurant in the Arcade is an authentic, impeccable fish-and-chips shop opened by Australian chef Cameron Payne. In Australia, Payne worked at Attica, a fine dining restaurant that has been named one of the world’s 50 best restaurants. But in his heart, he always wanted a small fish-and-chips shop, so when he and his wife moved to Nashville after a stint in Honolulu, he made it happen. The fish is served simply—crunchy, golden brown, and piping hot—served on a bed of crisp, seasoned fries. With zingy tartar sauce, it’s as good as anything you’ll find in London. Bonus: Payne’s wife, Hawaiian-born Nicole, creates fresh poke bowls, which are destination worthy in their own right.
