Red Perch is one of the best-kept secrets in town, but it won’t stay that way for long, especially now that they’ve moved from The Arcade to the west side’s Sylvan Supply complex. This small family-owned restaurant is an authentic, impeccable fish-and-chips shop opened by Australian chef Cameron Payne. In Australia, Payne worked at Attica, a fine dining restaurant that has been named one of the world’s 50 best restaurants. But in his heart, he always wanted a small fish-and-chips joint, so when he and his wife moved to Nashville after a stint in Honolulu, he made it happen. The fish is served simply—crunchy, golden brown, and piping hot—and plated on a bed of crisp, seasoned fries. With zingy tartar sauce, it’s as good as anything you’ll find in London. Bonus: Payne also makes delectable poke bowls, spot-on lumpia (Filipino eggrolls), and a chowder packed with so many clams (and also bacon) it is visit-worthy in its own right.
