3 West Club

Built by the Women’s National Republican Club in the 1930’s, this landmarked, 11 story hotel is open to all comers, but feels like a private club. It has not one but two ballrooms where many weddings take place; a wood paneled library; and a pub/restaurant (open only on weekdays, and somewhat hidden upstairs). Guestrooms are defiantly old school: large by NYC standards, with fine prints hanging on Wedgewood blue walls, curvaceous real antique furnishings, and heavy brocade curtains. Most overlook Rockefeller Center, which is right across the street. Surprisingly, prices are relatively reasonable most of the year, perhaps because there’s no fitness or breakfast here. It’s darn near impossible to get more centrally located digs.
